About AUSactive
Who is AUSactive?
AUSactive, formerly Fitness Australia, is the premier Australian Register of Exercise Professionals. As the national standard‑setting body for fitness, wellness, Pilates, Tai Chi, yoga and exercise professionals, AUSactive certifies Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, Gym Instructors and similar roles, ensuring they meet robust education and competency benchmarks
Who are AUSactive Registered Professionals?
Professionals listed on the AUSactive register have been independently verified to meet education levels and first‑aid requirements. This register includes:
Personal Trainers: qualified to design individualised exercise programs aligned with fitness goals.
Group Fitness Instructors: skilled in leading structured group workouts across diverse styles.
Gym Instructors: trained in gym-based coaching, safe equipment use and general client programming
What are AUSactive CPDs?
Continuous Professional Development (CPDs) are the professional development credits mandated by AUSactive to maintain your registration. Each accredited course or workshop is awarded CPDs based on its duration and content quality. Typically, 2 hours of education equals 1 CPD
How many CPDs do I need to maintain AUSactive registration?
To renew registration every two years, fitness professionals must accrue 20 CPDs within the 24‑month period. This ensures ongoing competence and alignment with industry trends.
How do you earn AUSactive CPDs?
You can earn CPDs through various accredited activities, including:
Online CPD courses, webinars and workshops
Face‑to‑face seminars and practical training
Industry experience, mentorship or lecturing
Relevant tertiary education subjects
Participation in professional associations
In‑house workplace education
What’s the difference between CPDs and PDPs?
CPDs (Continuous Professional Development) are tracked by AUSactive.
PDPs (Professional Development Points) are managed by Physical Activity Australia (PAA).
They serve the same purpose (ongoing education), but are relevant to different registration bodies.
So – you only need CPDs if registered with AUSactive, and PDPs if with PAA.
Are CPDs transferrable between cycles?
No. CPDs must be earned within the current two‑year registration cycle. There’s no rollover of credits from one cycle to the next.
What if I don’t earn enough CPDs?
Failing to earn the required 20 CPDs in 24 months could prevent you from renewing your AUSactive registration. This might impact your ability to legally represent yourself professionally and affect insurance validity.
Can I earn all 20 CPDs online?
Absolutely. AUSactive accepts 100% online CPD programs from approved providers. You can complete your full credit requirement through flexible online learning, including self‑paced courses, webinars and workshops.

Testimonials
Bex Lock was an extremely knowledgeable presenter who made the course both interesting and easy to understand. I particularly appreciated how she connected the science to practical applications for working with clients, which is especially valuable for Personal Trainers and health and fitness professionals.
As a Pilates Teacher and Personal Trainer, I found the course fantastic and gained a much greater understanding of the digestive system and the role of the gut microbiome.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of gut health and learn how to apply this information in a practical way when working with clients.
The content is friendly, engaging, and well structured, with none of the clunkiness I experienced with other providers. I am also completing the Older Adult Population CEC modules and enjoying those as well.
I really enjoyed the course and found it practical, easy to follow and very relevant to what we do as fitness professionals. Even after many years in the industry, it was a great refresher and reminded me how important the small details are when it comes to exercise technique, movement and coaching clients properly.
I’d definitely recommend this course to both newer trainers and experienced fitness professionals. There’s always something to learn or improve on, and I found the course genuinely worthwhile.
Thanks to the team at FEO for putting together such a useful and enjoyable course.
I have completed my Mat Pilates course and Prenatal and Post Natal course with FEO and absolutly loved both.
For anyone training women in the fitness industry, i highly recommend expanding your knowledge around womens health and fitness, and if you want to add another level to your training, Mat Pilates, for me has been a hit!!!
