Frequenty Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I still train adults with this certification?
Yes. You’ll complete the full Certificate III and IV in Fitness, which qualifies you to work with adults in gyms, one-on-one, and in group settings. The “Children’s Personal Trainer” pathway simply adds specialist training for working safely and effectively with kids.
Can I train kids straight away after completing it?
Yes. Once you finish the core fitness qualification plus the specialty CPD units, you’ll be qualified and insured to run programs for children.
Do I need extra insurance to work with kids?
Most insurance providers include coverage for working with children if you’ve completed the required specialty training — which this certification gives you. You’ll just need to list it on your insurance policy.
Is this course nationally recognised?
Yes. The Certificate III and IV in Fitness are nationally recognised under the SIS Training Package, and your CPD courses are industry-approved and mapped against AUSactive standards.
Will I be able to register with AUSactive (or other fitness bodies)?
Absolutely. With your Cert III/IV, you can register with AUSactive (or other industry bodies) as a Gym Instructor, Group Fitness Instructor, or Personal Trainer. The kids’ specialty training simply strengthens your profile.
What ages of children am I qualified to train?
This certification covers both primary school-aged children (6–12 years old) and adolescents (13–17 years old). You’ll be trained to adapt programs for age, maturity, and developmental stage.
Where can I work once I finish — gyms, schools, community centres, online?
You’ll have the flexibility to work in gyms, leisure centres, after-school programs, community centres, holiday camps, or even start your own kids’ bootcamps or online programs.
Do I need a Working With Children Check (WWCC) or equivalent?
Yes. Like all roles working with children, you’ll need to apply for a WWCC (or the equivalent in your state/territory). This is separate from your study and is usually a simple online application.
What’s the difference between this and just a Cert III/IV in Fitness?
A standard Cert III/IV qualifies you to work with adults, but it doesn’t go into the specific needs of children. This pathway adds specialist CPD units so you can confidently and legally run safe, age-appropriate sessions for kids.
What makes the CPD courses valuable — do they replace experience?
The CPD courses are designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice. You’ll learn the safety, psychology, and program design principles specific to kids. While nothing replaces real-world experience, these courses mean you’ll be job-ready from day one.
How long does the course take to complete?
Most students finish within 6–12 months, depending on whether you study full-time or part-time. The kids’ specialty CPD units can be completed alongside or after your Cert III/IV.
Is the training online, face-to-face, or blended?
The core Cert III/IV is delivered online with practical components you can complete at your local gym under supervision. The CPD specialty courses for children are delivered fully online for maximum flexibility.
What support do I get while studying?
You’ll have access to experienced mentors, online discussion groups, and dedicated student support. Plus, our team are all industry professionals who know what it’s like to train kids and adults in real-world settings.
Are there exams, assessments, or practical hours required?
Yes. Like all nationally recognised training, you’ll complete a mix of written assessments and practical demonstrations. These are designed to ensure you graduate with confidence in your skills.
Do I need to find my own placement to work with kids?
For the Cert III/IV practical assessments, you’ll complete hours in a gym or fitness setting (we’ll guide you on how to arrange this). The kids’ CPD units don’t require placements — they’re scenario-based and immediately practical.
Will this help me stand out from other trainers?
Yes. Very few trainers are specifically qualified to work with kids. Having this specialty sets you apart in the industry and makes you more employable in gyms, schools, and community programs.
Can I run my own kids’ bootcamps or programs with this qualification?
Yes. Many graduates go on to start their own children’s programs, after-school sessions, or holiday bootcamps. This certification gives you both the qualifications and confidence to do so.
Can I use this certification internationally?
The Cert III/IV in Fitness is an Australian qualification, but many international fitness bodies recognise it for equivalency. You may need to apply for recognition in each country, but your specialty training in kids’ fitness will always be valuable.
What opportunities exist for continuing education after this course?
You can continue to upskill with CPD courses in women’s health, older adults, nutrition, Pilates, bootcamps, and more. Many trainers also move into Certificate IV in Nutrition Coaching or Diploma-level studies.
Can this certification help me get insurance and work contracts with schools or councils?
Yes. Having both the nationally recognised fitness qualification and the specialist CPD training makes it easier to secure insurance and meet the requirements schools and councils often set for children’s programs.

Testimonials
Bex Lock was an extremely knowledgeable presenter who made the course both interesting and easy to understand. I particularly appreciated how she connected the science to practical applications for working with clients, which is especially valuable for Personal Trainers and health and fitness professionals.
As a Pilates Teacher and Personal Trainer, I found the course fantastic and gained a much greater understanding of the digestive system and the role of the gut microbiome.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of gut health and learn how to apply this information in a practical way when working with clients.
The content is friendly, engaging, and well structured, with none of the clunkiness I experienced with other providers. I am also completing the Older Adult Population CEC modules and enjoying those as well.
I really enjoyed the course and found it practical, easy to follow and very relevant to what we do as fitness professionals. Even after many years in the industry, it was a great refresher and reminded me how important the small details are when it comes to exercise technique, movement and coaching clients properly.
I’d definitely recommend this course to both newer trainers and experienced fitness professionals. There’s always something to learn or improve on, and I found the course genuinely worthwhile.
Thanks to the team at FEO for putting together such a useful and enjoyable course.
I have completed my Mat Pilates course and Prenatal and Post Natal course with FEO and absolutly loved both.
For anyone training women in the fitness industry, i highly recommend expanding your knowledge around womens health and fitness, and if you want to add another level to your training, Mat Pilates, for me has been a hit!!!
