About Physical Activity Australia
Who is Physical Activity Australia?
Physical Activity Australia (PAA) is a national registration body dedicated to supporting and promoting fitness professionals across Australia. With a strong focus on industry standards, ongoing education, and professional development, PAA ensures that Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, and Gym Instructors are well-equipped to provide safe and effective exercise programs.
Who are Physical Activity Australia Registered Professionals?
Fitness professionals registered with Physical Activity Australia have met education and competency standards, demonstrating their ability to deliver high-quality training. Registration categories include:
- Personal Trainers – Design personalised exercise programs to help clients achieve their health and fitness goals.
- Group Fitness Instructors – Lead structured fitness classes across various training styles and levels.
- Gym Instructors – Provide gym-based coaching, equipment guidance, and exercise instruction.
What are Physical Activity Australia PDPs?
PDP stands for Professional Development Points, which are used to track ongoing learning and skill development. Completing approved courses, attending industry workshops, and participating in other educational activities earn PDPs, helping fitness professionals maintain and enhance their expertise.
How many PDPs do I need per year to keep my Physical Activity Australia registration?
To maintain your Physical Activity Australia registration, fitness professionals must earn 6 PDPs every two years. This ensures you stay up to date with industry advancements and continue delivering high-quality services to clients.
How to earn Physical Activity Australia PDPs?
Aside from online courses, Physical Activity Australia also recognises a range of other professional development activities. You can earn PDPs through:
- Face-to-face workshops and seminars
- Working in the fitness industry
- Online learning
- In-house workplace training
- Professional association memberships
- Lecturing
- Relevant university subjects
- Mentoring
What’s the difference between PDPs and CECs?
PDPs (Professional Development Points) are issued by Physical Activity Australia, while CPDs (Continuing Professional Development) are issued by AUSactive. They serve the same purpose — to show that you’ve completed ongoing education — but they are tracked by different registration bodies. You’ll need PDPs if you’re registered with PAA, and CPDs if you’re registered with AUSactive.
Can I transfer PDPs from previous years?
What happens if I don’t earn enough PDPs in a year?
Can I earn all my required PDPs online?
Yes — Physical Activity Australia recognises 100% online PDP courses, as long as they’re delivered by an approved provider (like us). You can complete all your annual PDP requirements without attending in-person workshops.
Testimonials
The last course I completed was the Resistance Band course. I found it to be an absolute pool of exercises to be put to good use. There was a lot of exercises shown that I never knew of and even partner exercises which would be great for bootcamp. The exercises are also placed into categories which is great if I need a refresher.
I highly recommend any PT out there to have a look through the many courses that FEO has to offer as there are many to choose from.
A lot of different options and exercises shown in a clear way.
I recommend it to everyone 💪🏻
I have finished many FEO courses and found them value for money and ease of learning.
At 67 years young and being in the fitness industry for over 30 years updating and maintaining skills is essential. You can never stop learning. I would encourage PT's to engage in additional study to stay current in information.
It was funny and informative all in one. I would recommend it to any one training woman of any age.
