We know that fitness professionals come in all shapes, sizes and ages. Today I want to introduce you to Terry, who is an aqua instructor and personal trainer who is based in Inverloch, VIC, which is about 150km south east of Melbourne and with a population of just over 5000 people.
Like so many others in the industry she decided to re-train as a personal trainer in her 60’s, after 25 years of being a psychologist. Terry’s main focus in the industry is helping people feel better about themselves and predominantly working with people who are 40+.
For Terry, who has now been a personal trainer for a decade, re-training provided her with an opportunity to improve her own fitness, meet new people and have a career that is much more “fun.” Ultimately, for Terry the most rewarding part of becoming a personal trainer has been having people say to her, “six months ago I could never have done that exercise!”
With Terry’s business focusing on 40+ she has found further studies on working with seniors, chair based programs and running online zoom sessions extremely valuable to her business success.
Her advice for someone maybe looking to start a career in fitness, “go for it regardless of your age, make the classes your own, listen to client feedback and enjoy the process.”
